I draw pictures and write stories.

What are you working on at the moment?
My first picture book, The Nowhere Box, is due out in November 2013 and will be published by Candlewick in the US and Walker Books in the UK. It's about a small boy who uses a cardboard box to escape his little brother by going Nowhere. The plan works better than he could have hoped...
I'm also working on illustrations for the second in a three book series – ‘The Misadventures of Edgar And Allan Poe' - by Gordon McAlpine, published by Viking/Penguin. The first book was out in January 2013. The series chronicles the adventures of two twin brothers who just happen to be the great-great-great-great grandnephews of Edgar Allan Poe.
I am also illustrating a picture book for David Elliot called 'Nobody's Perfect,' due for publication by Candlewick in 2015. Seems like a long way off...
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
Experiment, try new things, be aware of your comfort zone and try not to linger in it for too long.
My pleasure Sam, I'm sorry if I missed you out of the loop with the meal, it sort of developed from Stephanie and I going for a pizza and grew bit by bit! But we'll definitely do it again. I had a great time today and it was lovely to see you again. Can't wait to see your first book out - when's publication date?
Hi Sam, I'm just organising everything. there's a change in that we're meeting every other month starting in Feb, so we can have a December party. You'll be getting an email soon about the first (possibly even today!)
