About Me
I recently signed a three book contract with Meadowside Books for my teen cycle of novels set on an Island off the South Coast of England.
The first novel, HIDDEN, is due out in October 2010. It is about two teenagers who find an illegal immigrant washed up on a beach and hide him to save him from being deported. One of the teenagers was an unaccompanied child asylum seeker.
write fiction and poetry for children and adults, as well as book reviews and articles. I run creative writing workshops and I work as an Independent editor and a writing mentor. Check out my website and my blog :

What are you working on at the moment?
I am working on rewrites for my editor on the first novel, HIDDEN. I am revising sections of the second novel, ILLEGAL. And I have also started the third novel in my cycle, STUFFED.
If you were asked to recommend just one children's book published this year, what would it be?
Fish in the Sky by Fridrik Erlings, ( Meadowside fiction books, 2009) Erlings is an Icelandic writer and this teen novel takes us into the mind of a thirteen year old boy as he is struggling to cope with his family life and the onset of the teenage years. As I am a total fan of anything from Iceland, it was great to read a novel set in that amazing part of the world.
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
Attending book talks and readings can give you fresh ideas and inspire you to aim high.

Tennis and the Marathon Author

Eve wondered what playing tennis and writing a novel have in common. Take a look at my latest article and you'll find my thoughts on how Rafa, Roger, Andy and Novak have similar struggles to the lonely author struggling in their metaphorical attic. Leave me a comment, let me know what you think. Enjoy and Happy Writing.

Good news. My three book offer from Meadowside.

I have just secured a three book offer from Meadowside Books, award winning publishers of picture books, who are now building their older fiction list, which is also winning awards. The first book in my linked cycle of three novels set on Hayling Island may come out as early as October 2010. Exciting times and lots of work ahead. Watch this space!

Thanks to everyone who attended my Masterclass on Writing Dialogue

We had a great Masterclass on Writing Dialogue last Saturday at the usual London meeting place, upstairs at the Theodore Bullfrog pub. Thanks to everyone who attended. I was most impressed by all the different ideas and writing which the writers presented to the class and feedback has been very positive. People have commented that they found the workshop inspiring and very practical, helping them to sort out difficulties with characters and plot, to take their novels forward. I run regular… Continue

Hello Miriam
Thanks for your lovely comment to me. I had heard that you were doing workshops at MRC. Some of the people in Stacy's class attend both and I hear nothing but good things about you! I am trying to write, and do a little every day (better than nothing at least) but it is terribly slow work and a difficult time of year as far as my day job goes, but writing is still centre of my thoughts. I am off on holiday to Mauritius and then home (South Africa) in 2 weeks' time, and hope to get lots of writing time in. I am enjoying being a member of SCBWI, I have attended one event with Mal Peet and loved it! I am a bit shy as far as socials is concerned, but I guess I will work myself up to it! Anyway, I see that there are some comments for you about a book deal, congratulations! I'd love to hear more! Anyway, thanks again for being in touch, and we'll speak soon.
