About Me
I have three 8 - 12 books published by Usborne and a YA novel commissioned by the Stratford Upon Avon Literary Festival. I also write for Working Partners. I am Honorary Teaching Fellow on the University of Warwick's MA in Writing, where from 2011 I'll teach writing for children. I run my own writing for children workshops too in Birmingham:www.thewritingden.webs.com
What are you working on at the moment?
A fantasy archeological adventure for ages 8 - 12, and a 12+ fantasy.
If you had to recommend just one children's book you've read in the last year, what would it be?
Wasted by Nicola Morgan
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
Keep on challenging and questioning yourself as a writer - if you think you've mastered prose, try poetry, if you're good at action scenes work on your description. Keep learning and growing, just like your readers.

Red House!

OMG! OMG! OMG! I am a ‘recommended book of the year’ by the Red House Award! http://www.redhousechildrensbookaward.co.uk/pick-of-the-year-younger-readers.html This is the best award in the world because it is judged entirely by children. I’m thoroughly thrilled. And thank you Candy for the tip to post this in the blog :)

And the sequel, Socks, Shocks and Secrets, is mentioned in Writeaway's 'Diaries' reading theme… Continue

Leila, hi - re your request about ecritique groups - Mariam Vossough is in the throes of setting up an 8+ ecritique group, can I ask you to get in touch with her, and then we can take it from there.

Let me know how you get on, and if there are any problems, do contact me.

Hi Leila,
Hope all is well with you. Sorry to mess you around, but can we delay meeting up till after Easter? The children break up from school soon and I will be visiting family in the Uk over the holidays and want to reach a certain stage on the book before I have to take an enforced break. So if you don't mind, I'd like to keep my head down for now and hope to feel ready to be sociable soon.
Thanks and happy Easter.

CHIPS, BEANS AND LIMOUSINES- I saw my 12 year old reading this. She must have liked it as she was very intent while reading it except for the occasional giggle. I generally read much of what she reads, but I didn't get to this one. However, this is going on my ever growing list of must reads.

No problem at all. I'll pencil you in for 18/19 March. Meanwhile, I hope you're enjoying Italy.
