Poetry project for new year!

After being inspired when browsing a fellow SCBWI-er's website (Andrew Weale, you don't know me but thanks!) I decided to publish some of my poetry on my website, as a personal project to try and stimulate creativity this year. I liked the way Andrew's website was just full of different samples of writing and seemed not to take itself too seriously, ditto all the fun and wonderful poems that were published on Notes from the…See More

Profile

About Me
Former medical/scientific writer, now hoping to fulfil my childhood ambition of writing fiction. My mother named me after her favourite author, Laura Ingalls (Little House on the Prairie), but I am more of an Arthur Ransome at heart.
What are you working on at the moment?
Finding an agent to help me publish one of my completed novels. In the next few months I'm trying to be more proactive in this area instead of distracting myself with the much more fun side of writing more stories!
If you had to recommend just one children's book you've read in the last year, what would it be?
Don't know if it was this year, but 'What's for Dinner Mr Gum' by Andy Stanton cracked me up and brightened my day so much I read it again next time I was down in the dumps!
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
To keep going! If it makes you happy, it's worth it.

I have finally got in gear and launched a new website for my writing and completed books:

www.lauralouisestewart.webeden.co.uk

I have also recently made one of my older books available on Amazon as an e-book (although you don't need a kindle to read it!)

Aimed at children aged 9+ and animal lovers of any age, this story is about when the natural world meets the supernatural, resulting in a life-changing adventure for one girl...

Hi Laura. Welcome to the Ning! belonging to SCBWI has defintely had a massive impact on my life and creativity. The Undiscovered Voices Anthology and being one of the finalists in it has been amazing opportunity. Meeting publishers and agents last Thursday who wanted to know about my story and actually wanted to listen to my ideas was an eceptional experience.

Hi Laura, I think I must have 'one of those faces', I get a bizarre number of people saying they recognise me from somewhere!  I went to school in Alresford though, so if you grew up around Winchester it's possible we've met I guess! Or maybe I saw you at the conference? Either way, thanks for adding me it's nice to make new friends. Rachel x

Finishing a website deserves applause and possibly even a glass of wine. Looks good, I like the layout.
