Profile

About Me
I am a freelance writer, editor and scriptwriter. I write in several genres (poetry, children's television, radio and stage plays, children's books) so 'variety' is the key word. I was included in the 2008 Undiscovered Voices which led to me making some fantastic -- and sickeningly talented -- friends. I am represented by Eve White for books and Yasmin McDonald at United Agents for scriptwriting.

My book SPIES IN DISGUISE: BOY IN TIGHTS will be published by Piccadilly Press in 2013.

Recent work includes writing for BIG AND SMALL and CHUGGINGTON (CBeebies), two poetry collections, ESCAPING THE CAGE and WHO'S IN THE NEXT ROOM? (both HappenStance, 2010), three books in a commercial series for Hodder, a phonic reader for HarperCollins, NO, SID, NO! and two books for Pearson Education, THE CATAPULT KID: THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH and THE CATAPULT KID: OUTLAWS ON THE LOOSE. In the past I've worked as a poetry workshop leader in primary schools (in conjunction with Tor Theatre), taking drama/poetry workshops to primary schools in the south west. I hope to do more of this in the future. As my hobby, I am a keen (but sadly very amateur) illustrator.
What are you working on at the moment?
Scripts for series 3 of CHUGGINGTON, a new radio play, a first book in a new series for 7+, and a non-fiction children's book for Oxford University Press.
If you had to recommend just one children's book you've read in the last year, what would it be?
The Eighteenth Emergency by Betsy Byars and Wonder by R J Palacio.

Also the forthcoming Half Lives by Sara Grant.
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?

Great to hear that you enjoyed 15 Days – thanks for reading it. I see from your profile that you've been somewhat busy yourself! How do you find the time?

I like the Robert Cormier quote at the top, by the way. He's one of my literary heroes!

All the best, Dave

But thank you for prompting me to do so. I really must take the time to do these things more often - then may be I'd remember my passwords! All's well with me. I'm busy illustrating a new book for OUP. Hope you're well too. x
