About Me
I live in a beautiful town in Southern England and spend most of my time either writing or reading books and stories for kids and young adults (when I'm not looking after the other half and the kids, that is). I've written five full length novels so far and have just started on the next one while I wait to hear back about the fifth. I also write short stories and have had more publishing success with these. The first came out in May 2009 and another in January 2010.
What are you working on at the moment?
I'm knocking about a couple of concepts to see which one flies, marketing Castor and the Anthrobots, a scifi adventure for 9+, keeping my blog up to date with book reviews and write-ups of SCBWI events and helping to organise the 2012 Conference.
If you had to recommend just one children's book you've read in the last year, what would it be?
Teri Terry's Slated because it's a great debut by a great friend.
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
Make the characters real.

    2012 Agents Party

Just in case anyone's missed the Twitter, FB or yahoo group links about this. Here's my write-up of last week's Agents Party.

    Changing POVs

After a ridiculous long period of dithering I have now decided that Nihilation - which is currently renamed Strife - should be completely rewritten entirely from the point of view of one of the main characters and furthermore that the POV should be first. So this morning I commenced writing as a sassy, slightly scientifically nerdy, 18 year old boy - a role which, frankly, I find a little too close to home than is comfortable.

Anyway, I did wonder if anyone else has ever tried this.… Continue

Another chapter of Nihilation now on the blog

    Hi all

For those few of you who might have been following my Nihilation blog, I've now posted Chapter Four. This one introduces the last of the main four characters (Nate, Jack, Polly and Magya), and the weirdest one, as Magya is not human.

I'd love to have your feedback. The TW crit group liked it, but they're all such nice people I'm not sure they'd be very tough on me. So come on. I can take it (I… Continue

Nihilation Blog now up and running

    Hi all

As many of you will know I have now started a blog on my teen fantasy WIP, Nihilation. I will be posting excerpts, back story, snippets about the writing, etc, etc and would love to have your feedback. So far I have posted the first two chapters, (I won't be posting the whole book!) and an explanation for the photo above. Candy has also kindly provided a link… Continue

    Garen Ewing's The Rainbow Orchid

    Hi everyone

I met the delightful Garen Ewing on Tuesday to chat with him about his soon to be published book The Rainbow Orchid, plus comics, art, writing, and film. I couldn't have possibly written it all up, but I've distilled the essence of our conversation for your delight and delectation and had it posted to The Phantom Zone, along with some super pics that Garen supplied. Garen… Continue
