Just a quick note to let you know I received your story and will give it a proper read this evening!
Cheers,
Kev.
I look forward to being in the critique group with you.

Thanks for leaving a comment on my page, especially for the hints and tips :) You are the second person to contact me on the Ning who used to live in the same area. The other person now lives in Australia, I am a bit jealous when I look outside at all the snow we are having at the moment!
I am a member of the Association of Illustrators, but I don't really make the most of it at the moment. It is good to know you have had positive results from using the showcase. I think when you are getting started it can be hard to decide where to advertise, and how much to spend!
At the moment I am working on my portfolio, so don't have many images as yet, but when I have a few more I will follow your advice :) It was interesting to see you are working in packaging as well. I would love to do that. So wish me luck!
Best wishes
Katherine :)
They absolutely inspired me - it was really our 3rd daughter Liberty who would always sleep late through the week when I had to get her up so I could take the older girls to school. Yet on a weekend she would be up so early trying to wake us all. Once we had the new baby (now nearly 2 and pictured in my profile photo) she soon realised all she had to do was wake her and we would al be up immediately. Only thing was, once we were all up and ready to go out we would always find her curled up taking a nap.
It's a rhyming book, which I ummed and ahhed about to begin with as I have heard that they don't always translate, however I hired several translators (which is surprisingly cheap to do, approx 20 euros) and they have all managed to get the translations to rhyme - goodness only knows how. I thought this would give me more bargaining power :-) So I now have it in French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian too.
So far I have had a really great response from the people I have shown it to, but I was waiting until the fair to start seriously looking for a publisher.
I bought the Children's Writers and Illustrators Year book and will be reading that cover to cover.
I do have some contacts in the US with Harper Collins and Simon & Schuster as I illustrated some Meg Cabot books a few years back - but I really wanted to get it published in the UK first, and I hate asking for favours, lol. I guess I will need to harden up a bit :-)
Good to virtually meet you :-)

Can you tell us any more about your book - did your girls inspire you?
