- About Me
- I started as a comic book fan, wanting to write for Marvel Comics. But i was put off because i had some bad experiences - due to the fact that it's such a male-orientated world (sadly all the cliches are true when it comes to comic book geeks). Then i had an epiphany...I could have fun writing for children instead. As this thought occurred to me, it was as if a hidden system of cogs and pulleys began to turn in my mind, like some machine that had been waiting for the 'on' button to be activated. Since then i have written close to 180 000 words of three different middle grade and teen fiction books, and i have never had more satisfaction from my writing.
- What are you working on at the moment?
- The first in a trilogy of fantasy novels, about a young boy and his time-travelling best friend.
- If you were asked to recommend just one children's book published this year, what would it be?
- ooo I LOVE 'Changeling' by Steve Feasey! It's a fabulous werewolf and vampire romp for younger teens. As a child i was obssessed with werewolf tales and wanted to be a werewolf myself. I would have adored this story even more than i do now.
- What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
- To persevere! To be totally pig headed and stubborn about my work. To not listen to peoples' advice if it means compromising the creative flow of writing. I have learnt this the hard way, sadly.
