About Me
I have been writing now for, well for my whole life, but I have been writing seriously for about 5 years.
I do some freelance ghost writing (some for children and some not) and also have my own parenting and pregnancy website (www.babynunu.com).

I have two young children who do everything in their power to try to stop me writing but bedtime brings wine and peace and I finally get a chance to write. Also I get a few precious moments during the day when they are distracted by Cbeebies or chocolate (eeerrm - sorry I meant broccoli!)
What are you working on at the moment?
So busy at the moment (but all for no wage)
I am;
Writing a teen horror trilogy which I am loving (The Wendigo Wars)
Writing and rewriting and then rewriting again three picture books
Writing a historical fictional novel for Young Adults (Blood and Clay)
Really excited about a new teen horror novel project which I am doing with my writing partner (ReaperRoom)
Building the content on my parenting website (babynunu.com)
Doing a series of interviews with authors, publishers and illustrators for Suite 101 (.com)

Busy, busy, busy!
You can read about it all in more depth including a synopsis for each work in progress on my blog http://www.dulcineanortonsmith.co.uk
If you were asked to recommend just one children's book published this year, what would it be?
What a tough question! I have been too busy writing I haven't had much time for reading. I like Darren Shan though and have a real soft spot for the Spook series by Joseph Delaney. Also I love the Cat Royal Series by Julia Golding. I have just devoured the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer and the Sebastian Darke series by Philip Caveney
I am also looking forward to reading the books by the SCBWI authors that I have interviewed (when I get time to read them) and the upcoming anthologies from independant publishers Rebel Books LLP, Bridge House Publishing LLP and Wyvern Publications
Oh and my novel which of course will get me an agent and publisher by the end of the year... of course!
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
Never give up; Just when you think that nothing is ever going to happen it does
Never doubt yourself; people will love your work, you just need to find the right people at the right time
Quote (can't remember where from); The only difference between a published author and an unpublished author is perseverance
Quote (from Finding Nemo) "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming swimming swimming, what do we do? We swim!" [replace the word "swimming" throughout with the word "writing" and that is my dealing with rejection, motivation to keep writing song!]
Crit groups are actually really really useful

Writer's Block Busters and Writing on the Web

Just thought I would share some good websites with you that I have on the Writer's Resource page of my website.

The first bunch are good for when you have writer's block or just want to waste a bit of time on the net but kid yourself that you are working! The second lot are places where you can write either for money (a tiny bit of money) or to raise your profile.

Post your comments to share any other sites you love.

Writerly Types to Follow on Twitter

Hi All

Leading on from my last posting about Twitter I have found a few lists of authors, agents and publishers to follow on Twitter.

I have attached links to the lists below.

What I love about Twitter this week ............ reading that other writers also have writer's block, nerves and hopes when sending out submissions and triumphs at getting published

Tweet ya later!

That is great Eric. Keep us posted. It is encouraging to hear that persistance pays off in the end as it is easy to hit a slump and be tempted to give up on something (I do this at least fortnightly!)
