First Proofs of Hero Required Arrive!

Not sure if I'll ever not get excited when proofs arrive of books. I hope not! But first proofs of my third book 'Aggie Lichen; Pilp Collector - Hero Required' have arrived! 309 pages are now awaiting my red pen - hopefully not too many typos! The little steps nearer and nearer to publication are so exciting. I've finalised the cover - although still have to pay illustrator - and it's all up and running through Neilsen Book Data. So cool to see it all appear on Amazon, Waterstone's etc, even… Continue

Hi Debbie - although we are writing for very different audiences I suspect the journey has been very similar. The Waterstone's thing is very intriguing. Like you, I feel as if we've been on a merry go round, but they have been very supportive generally, especially the local stores. We've done about ten signings now and although exhausting the average sales for an 1100-1500 stint is about 80 books. I think your job is somewhat tougher because of the market you are in. One discovery for our stuff is that the 'niche' aspect of waterways stories seems to be a saviour. Rosie & Jim (remember them?) don't seem to be around any more so we seem to be filling a pretty big gap. All the same, the constant and relentless energy we have to put into this can be wearing - especially on a limited budget. I have really enjoyed your blogs and they really have helped me to keep things in perspective and keep ploughing on. It's a great help to know there's someone else out there with the same challenges and doubts about whether it's really all worth it! As for Gardeners - big orders, little orders, drives me mad. At least Bertrams seem to get them all in at once. It would be good to keep in touch and compare notes. Regards, Dan
