Congratulations to all the above mentioned people. You so very obviously deserve your success. Just shows what can be done when one outs one's mind to it. Better make a start trying to achieve the same result for myself next year. Once again very we…

Had a letter from a publisher today saying she would like to include this poem in a "Collection Of Poems For Children" she is planning to publish at the end of September. As you can guess I feel really chuffed.

Hi David,
Sorry, I've finished the work but now I have no child care which has been very difficult, it being the summer holidays. (I have a 4 year old boy.) I am intending to put my work up on this site, but time at the moment is against me, we are now in the middle of birthday season, august seems to be the cluster month! I'm still not sure how to do this yet so i need some time to work it all out. I did do some illustration for a competition recently in which I did post my work. It was a Julia Donaldson poem called Freddy and the Fairy held by Waterstones books and Macmillan. Here is the address where you can see the poem and the finalists work, www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/navigate.do?pPageID=1789 also go to the following address to see my entry www.flickr.com/groups/picturethisatwaterstones/pool/page6/. I am under the name Frazerazer. Its quite interesting seeing all the other work, apparently there were over 1000 entries and only 6 finalists. I was disappointed not to get through but with those odds its not a surprise. I would still love the opportunity to visualise some more characters as I really enjoyed doing that competition. I hope you like my work!!

Well done David!!

Good luck with that I really hope this is the start of great things! If you have any other poems you might need visuals for please keep me in mind, it does help to have character to start with.

Thanks,

Katherine

Hi David,
What a lovely poem! It does sound interesting, I would love to have a go at creating your worm, do you have an idea of what the wriggle might look like?

Sorry I haven't posted my work up yet, I've got some work on at the moment with a tight deadline, but I definitely will, as I think it's important to get other peoples opinions of it.

Good luck with the poem.

About Me
Retired (supposedly!)but working part time as a taxi driver doing school runs and Wheelchair taxi runs.
Left school at 15 back in the "Ice age", went to work at Boots Manufacturing in Nottingham, In February 1959 joined the Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm),
Left the R.N. in July 1969. Did various jobs before going to work at R.N.A.S. Yeovilton for a Civilian Aircraft Company doing the same job as I did in the Navy. Asked by them to go to Saudi Arabia to be an Instructor in the Royal Saudi Air Force at Dhahran. Completed my contract there, then started working for an oil company, still in Saudi Arabia. Later transfered by them to their operations in the U.K. including the North Sea
then in Angola. Changed companies and went to work off shore Ivory Coast. Transferred to Libya where I stayed until 1986 when Mr. Reagan decided it was time to bomb the place.
Went Taxiing for a while before becoming an Insurance Agent. Made redundant from there 1997, did a couple of driving/delivery jobs then in 2001 went back to taxiing.
Reached retirement age in 2005 but didn't feel like giving up so hence still taxiing.
Have written quite a few Children's poems and stories. Often had the promise of one or more being illustrated for me but let down in the end.
Hopefully may have more luck here.
What are you working on at the moment?
Several 'Ongoing' stories and poems for children
If you were asked to recommend just one children's book published this year, what would it be?
Don't honestly know.
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
Since joining this site? - never give up, seems to be always someone willing to help out.

THE WORM

I am still not too sure of how you do things on here, so I thought the best thing was to post one of my poems for Children and see what anyone thinks.

The Worm.

The worm lost it’s wriggle, he didn’t know where.
Maybe inside an apple or even a pear.
The last time he had it was yesterday noon.
He’d be in real big trouble if he didn’t find it soon.
With daylight approaching and birds looking round
For their breakfast, he needed to be underground.
For now he was safe, or as safe as could be,
But he must lie quite still, or else they would see
This fat juicy worm, (for he’d put on some weight.)
So he really must hide, before it was too late.
He tried to remember, what he did yesterday,
And the reason his wriggle had gone right away.
The last place he’d been, was inside a plum
When it fell off the bush, now he really felt glum.
There was the plum, he could see it quite clear.
But was it too far away? that was his fear.
He rolled over and over and after an hour,
He got to the plum, though it took all his power.
He lay there and rested, then looked all around
To see if his wriggle was there on the ground.
Next he looked up and then gave a shout.
The end of his wriggle was just poking out
Of the hole in the plum, he could see it quite plain,
But how could he get it back to him again.
Just then a slight breeze, gently turned the plum round,
And his wriggle fell out right there on the ground.
“I’ll soon put that back," Said the worm with delight,
“Then I’ll wriggle myself down a hole out of sight.”

What Have We Got

Well we’ve got it home now, so lets check out the bits
Then take it upstairs and see if it fits.

There seems to be plenty of bolts nuts and screws,
Are you going to help or sit watching the news?

We’ll certainly need glue did they put any in?
If not I think there’s some left in my tin.

Look at these instructions are they put there to tease,
Or do the makers expect we can all read Chinese?

It says there’s a door with a nice fancy hinge
Shall I give them a call and have a go… Continue
