Critique Groups - Do you know what you want out of them?

I am in two critique groups formally and also critique with two other friends from a course I did in Faber. I also write with my friend and he is usually my first reader.

But what do I want from a critique group?

Firstly I want honest feedback from my critique group. They are my truth buddies. I want them to say what I have written isn’t working if it doesn’t work. I want them to say that the rhyme is forced or the story line is slight or they can’t find it funny. I want them…

Balu and His Basket

Tulika Books are based in Chennai, India. It is my home-town. Well, it is a coastal city. When I started writing picture books in earnest, my first ambition was to be published by Tulika. One of my writer acquaintances had got a book with them and then I found another. I was jealous and I was green with envy. All in a good way of course.

Although I had started publishing in magazines and with a Singapore publisher, getting a picture book in print…

Tributes Along the Way

I recently wrote here, http://www.chitrasoundar.com/due-to-be-released/, about how the character names for two of my picture books were chosen. Now that I have a baby nephew, I try and see if I can use his name for the next book – of course something that he might be interested in reading when he grows up.

The other thing I keep wondering and keep doodling about is dedication. There are some books where my friend has…

You can view all my books on line at www.twinkleshark.co.uk, but please let me know if you would like a complimentary paperback of any title.

Thanks,

Thanks Chitra. I don't think I've received a questionnaire yet, but that could just be me being thick! I'm still finding my way around the Ning.

I was wondering if you could add my name to the Wordsprouts waiting list too. At the moment I'm pinging all my stories over to my agent without having them critiqued by other PB authors first, but I'd really like some feedback on them before they get to the submission stage.

Many thanks,

Elli
