About Me
I'm an American writer living in the UK, and I have a soft spot for adventure, suspense, and quirky characters. My historical fantasy novel CHANTRESS (the first of a trilogy) debuts in 2013 with Simon & Schuster. Set in a dark 1660’s England, it's about a girl who sings magic in a world that forbids it, and who battles the soul-stealing Shadowgrims.

I love libraries, tulips, and the color red, and I'm passionate about history, which works its way into pretty much everything I write. For more about me, please check out my main website: : http://www.amybutlergreenfield.com

I used to be a fairly quick writer, but a transatlantic move and a small, bundle-of-energy child have slowed me down a bit. I keep going, though, because writing is my great delight. Well, that and dark chocolate and fresh blackberries and oh, too many things to count. But writing is especially great because it lets me taste every pleasure twice.
What are you working on at the moment?
The sequel to CHANTRESS
If you had to recommend just one children's book you've read in the last year, what would it be?
CODE NAME VERITY by Elizabeth Wein (but it's so hard to choose just one!)
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
To keep going, even when the way forward is dark. The poet Antonio Machado was right: "Traveler, there is no path. / The path is made by walking."
