Profile

About Me
I am an unpublished writer of children's/YA realist fantasy. I have devoted lots of years to studying my craft however, having graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in the US and then gained a BA in English with Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and a MA in Creative Writing from the University of Exeter. I am now pursuing my PhD in Creative Writing - mainly so that I can justify devoting half of my working life to writing!
What are you working on at the moment?
I have two big projects! I am currently working on the first book in a YA fantasy series reimagining Spenser's THE FAERIE QUEENE in a modern context. I am also in the early stages of my PhD project which is a (hopefully) YA/Adult crossover historical fantasy set in the Regency period and taking inspiration from the Arabian Nights.
If you had to recommend just one children's book you've read in the last year, what would it be?
I haven't read any yet - too buried in Regency research at the moment! In terms of what's coming in 2012, I am looking forward to UNSPOKEN by Sarah Rees Brennan.
What is the most important thing you learned about writing or illustrating this year?
Don't be too hard on yourself!
